Personal Statement

Cynthia McGrath joined the faculty in December 2011 and brings over 16 years of experience as an NP to her teaching role.  Because she maintains a clinical practice as an FNP, she brings real life clinical cases to the classroom as a springboard to enhance student learning.  Prior to becoming an NP, Cindy worked eighteen years in the Emergency Department, and developed excellent assessment skills and the desire to practice more autonomously which led her to pursue graduate education and realize her dream of becoming a Nurse Practitioner.

She thrives on innovation and so enrolled in the inaugural cohort of UIC's DNP program.  In her roles as an NP, Cindy has developed innovative settings that provide access to healthcare for patients at Rosecrance Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Facility, Winnebago County Jail, and Boone County Health Department.  She brings that same enthusiasm to her teaching role at Saint Anthony College of Nursing.

When not in the classroom or clinic, Cindy is an excellent musician and plays piano at liturgical services and at Rock Valley College.  She loves nature and traveling with her husband, three adult children and spending time with her grandson.
